What is Project StepUp?

StepUp is part of a collaboration between the Entertainment Technology Center and the World Shoe Fund, a social enterprise committed to improving global health by distributing shoes and providing hygiene education to communities. Through their Wash and Wear Program, they not only deliver shoes but also educate on the importance of good hygiene through school-based campaigns. StepUp extends these initiatives into the digital world.

The StepUp Project focuses on developing a 3D interactive game for Android tablets, aimed at strengthening hygiene education. This game engages students with entertaining and educational challenges that emphasize proper handwashing, foot care, and the crucial role of wearing shoes. Tailored for students, the game combines sports-style competitions and fantasy adventure elements to ensure that learning remains both enjoyable and impactful.

The team of six is tasked with creating an engaging digital tool that complements the World Shoe Fund’s in-person outreach, helping students build lasting hygiene habits to improve their overall health and well-being.

About Us

Why does the world need a game that promotes hygiene?

The world needs a game that promotes hygiene because it can effectively reach underserved areas and younger demographics where traditional health education methods may fall short. In regions with limited resources, such as developing countries, a game provides an engaging and scalable way to teach essential hygiene practices like handwashing and foot care. Targeting young people through interactive gameplay ensures they absorb and retain these lessons, helping to prevent diseases and improve overall public health in vulnerable communities.
