Playtest Results

As this past week was a short week at school, we as a team have opted to share the playtest results from the major playtest day this past Saturday. The places in bold are questions we asked play testers.

Can you describe the whole experience you just watched?

Rate

  • 43.1% of our participants described the process and purpose of the experience successfully 
  • 24.1% of our participants understood a little bit of the experience, either on finding things or walking

Summary

  • Background of participants might influence the understandability of the experience
  • Didn’t understand why they need to explore
  • Didn’t understand what kinds of object can be scanned
  • Confused because of no direct hints

Name one thing you like, and why?

Rate

  • 53.3% of our participants liked either the art style, character design, mix and match, or the environment
  • 33.3% of our participants liked either technology or augmented reality
  • 40% of our participants liked either the real world environment, gameplay or bubbles for hints
  • 13.3% of our participants did not say anything they like

Summary

  • Characters are unique
  • Performance is fantastic
  • Mix and match is awesome 
  • People like the idea of walking and exploring the neighborhood 

Name one thing you would like to change, and why?

Rate

  • 86.7% of our participants struggled and confused with how to trigger the performance, and suggested to add more direct hints and contents
  • 13.3% of our participants wanted to add a function that can interact with characters

Summary

  • Need extra help, direct instructions, clear hints, more contents
  • Hints in bubble are not directly enough

How do you feel about the experience and the animation you just watched?

Rate

  • 33.3% of our participants liked the animation, think it is interesting with the environment, and invoked positive emotions
  • 26.7% of our participants thought the animation is either not fit with the environment, have no point, or wondering why this is an outdoor thing
  • 44.8% of our participants pulled the trigger successfully intentionally or not

Summary

  • Most of the participants like the animation (for those who triggered animation successfully) 
  • Different participants could give out totally different thoughts (environmental fitness) 
  • Good animation could promote users to keep playing 
  • The user moves too fast, not sure if the trigger is correct
  • The user did not know how to scan properly
  • The user did not look around

What information do you get from the Loading page?

Rate

  • 20.7% of our participants remembered and understood the meaning of the page successfully

Summary

  • Didn’t realize what the loading page means
    • Too short to be remembered
    • Didn’t even see the page
    • Just didn’t think it is something important
    • Didn’t pay attention
  • Fully understand or understood a little bit
    • Learned it is about to walk 

What’s going through your mind as you view the customize page?

Rate

  • 37.9% of our participants entered customize page
  • 27.6% of our participants swiped and used mix and match function successfully
  • One of our participants mentioned that he wants to go back to change the character in the experience but he cannot

Summary

  • Need to be more obvious to show the page is swipeable 

Did you notice the fire hydrant bubbles? Did you tap the bubbles? What do those bubbles mean to you?

Rate 

  • 41.4% of our participants clicked the fire hydrant bubble and tried to interact with the bubbles
  • 31% of our participants thought they need to find something, either the real fire hydrant, a 3D model, or bubbles
  • One of our participants tried to draw circle along the edges of bubble

Summary

  • Need to tell users to scan the real object more directly and clearly (“find me” is not obvious)
  • Need to be stand out enough to be able to catch user’s attention
  • Need to tell users to tap the bubble for hints
  • Sometimes bubbles are too high
