Week 1 – Kickoff

Time: 01/17-01/22

Summary:

We are excited to start the semester. It’s been a long way for this pitch project to be here. We will be working in a team of six graduate students from CMU and with our project advisors, Mo and Heather. This project is different from most projects at ETC because we don’t have a client, who usually makes a request. Throughout the project, we will be setting development goals for ourselves in order to finish our deliverables.

Production:

The team production tool will be a combination of Monday.com and Google Drive. Milestones and some early tasks have been created and assigned to each team member.

Design:

During our pitch process, we had a vague idea that we would build an apartment where the guest joins and tours as a new tenant. We picked out a few character designs for the neighbors from a list we brainstormed last November. In short, they will be an influencer, a clockmaker, a reptile and fish lover, a drunk man, a pastry chef, and a heretic. Each will have a room the guest can either observe from the outside or enter. The underlying story is still under development and will not be disclosed fully in these blogs for the sake of preventing spoilers.

Programming:

Different VR headsets have been checked out and will undergo initial testing to make sure they are suitable for development.

A green screen footage test has been made in December to check the validity of combing 2D footage in a 3D VR environment. The video asset was downloaded from MixKit.

Future Plans:

  • Graybox for the apartment and individual rooms
  • Storyboard based on graybox
  • VR scale testing
