Luminatti is an interdisciplinary team of five graduate students from CMU’s Entertainment Technology Center. Using Real-Time Motion capture and TouchDesigner, the group is exploring projection mapping in contemporary performance and visual art contexts. The team is developing a platform that has a physical and emotional impact on the audience in collaboration with Pittsburgh-based Nigerian-American artist Mikael Owunna, whose work explores the intersections of technology, optics, and Blackness as a metaphysical and cosmological principle. This platform can not only bring the world of African myth to life with the integration of traditional African knowledge systems but also be adapted to other generic settings. In the long run, the platform seeks to further enhance dynamic performance art.
