Week 5 (Milestone 1)

Milestone 1: In this week, we have finalized the technology that we are using, and the latency performance is optimized so we can spend the next few weeks to experiment with design. Fabric Test: The different type of fabric that the performers wear will affect Azure Kinect’s detection accuracy. So we ran a set of fabric tests to see which type of fabric is most suitable for this experience. Then we tested projecting our Read more…

Week 4

Video Demo: In this week’s demo, we experimented with adding trail to the graphics so we can design around the latency. Performer Number Modified Based on this week’s meeting with Mikael, the number of performers are changed from 5 to 4. Projector Latency Test Result Here is the Projector Latency Test Result. In this result, we have measured the latency problem of in number and compared different projectors. From the test, the IDeATe Read more…

Week 3

Client’s Step Back: After reviewing the week 2’s list of challenges for a few days, the client, and the producer on his end, Marques, talked to us, aiming to forgo the idea of motion tracking and replace this project with still videos for the performers to choreograph from. The team, on the other side, felt a bit surprised because this is what this project is set out to motion track and project interactive visuals over Read more…

Week 1

Project Overview: This is a project for Artist Mikael Owunna. We are creating a tool/system to cast 4 visual treatments/effects onto 5 dancing performers on the stage that will follow their body shape/movement.  Each visual treatment is expected to be 15 minutes long (Total 1 hour), but loopable. (For example, 1 minute long treatment multiplied by 15 times)    Mikael’s Practice: Hand paint light-sensitive pigment onto the model’s body, and use ultraviolet light (built into Read more…
