Week 14

We made it! The final week has come and gone!

It was a tough few days, that demanded extra work from the team to make up for our lack of organization in previous weeks, which led to a rougher version of the game than we had hoped for in Week 13. It forced us to realize we had to dedicate more time and attention to implementation and development, UI design, and rapid testing and iterating. We must accept that certain features of the game are still missing or weren’t fully finalized, such as certain audio additions and UI elements. But the game is in a better place than in the previous week.

We had a wonderful video call with Ana Klemm and other WLU teachers on Wednesday, to show them our teacher guide and game and get their feedback. Anna is a seventh grade Technology teacher, who inspired Lou to set up this micro:bit project with ETC. The call was a great opportunity to playtest our teacher guide for the last time and get valuable feedback on it. It also validated our design decisions for the game, as the teachers were impressed by the activities students have to complete and the educational goals they accomplish.

Video Trailer

Below is the project’s video trailer produced and edited by our artist, which was created as an overview of what our project is about.

ETC Fall Festival

The ETC Fall Festival happened this Friday, so guests came into the building to test students’ projects and learn about our work. Micro Bittle received a few visitors that watched our video trailer and played our game, so it was a good opportunity to see the experience be tested at this final stage.

Next Steps

The final steps left for the team are the following:

  • Finalize our teacher guide (which required the game to be finished for its own completion) this weekend and share it with Lou and Ana for final approval

Story Mode wiring tutorial included in Micro Bittle’s teacher guide
  • Meet with Lou on Tuesday for a final project check-in and to send her our deliverables (Micro Bittle website files so WLU can set up their own version of the website; micro:bit code for any micro:bit used in the Micro Bittle game; teacher guide; WLU guide that includes all the hardware components needed for the game and instructions to install the micro:bit code and to deploy the website)
  • Finalize our project post-mortem this weekend
  • Present our project on Wednesday morning at the ETC!
