This week the team was very excited, as it was finally time to do the mo-cap with the dancer from Attack Theatre. During Spring Break, a couple members of the team were able to spend a day testing different approaches to certain movements. Answering questions such as: What movements should the dancer avoid? If the dancer is on a chair, how will the movement change? What about an assisted lift?
The test day allowed the actual day of motion-capture to go smoothly. Below is an image of our lovely dancer Sarah Zielinski in the motion-capture suit. Sarah and Dane Toney, Attack Theatre’s Manager of Technology and Creative Productions, really helped bring Emma and her story to life.
Tuesday had a rough shotlist and the storyboard timed with music to help keep track of what all needed to be captured. After Tuesday gave directions to Sarah and Dane, they would then interpret and try different movements or sequences prior to capture. When Sarah felt like she was ready for the next section, Sheenu would record the mo-cap data.
We recorded each specific movement/sequence separately, but due to Ralph’s suggestion, also recorded a walkthrough of the whole song in order to bridge any gaps and serve as backup. The day was a lot shorter than expected and the team was able to get everything we needed in around four hours.
And here are some art progress:
