From Concepts to Prototypes
The week began with an exciting milestone: moving from paper designs into our first playable prototypes. We developed two directions in parallel, each mapping directly to therapeutic goals:
- Butterfly Watching (Heel Raises) – A gentle exercise turned into discovery, where players lift their heels to reveal butterflies hidden behind a bush. The calm theme makes repetition feel natural and rewarding.
- Animal Raid (Reactive Balance) – Mischievous animals dart into the campsite to steal food, and players must step quickly in the right direction to chase them away. The mechanic trains reactive balance through rapid weight shifts in response to visual cues.
These prototypes gave us a tangible start in testing how NuShu’s sensors can transform therapeutic movements into playful experiences.
Guidance and Refinement
Midweek brought valuable guidance on both design and technology. In our faculty meeting, we were encouraged to consider not only the immediate gameplay but also the longer-term impact of our work—how it might inspire future collaborations in the footwear and sports space. The feedback reminded us that our efforts are not just about building a demo, but about contributing innovative research and creative problem-solving.
At the same time, we met with Conrad from Magnes AG to review technical updates. He walked us through improvements to charging, connectivity, and pairing, and outlined upcoming deliverables such as game builds and API utilities. These refinements will strengthen the reliability of our prototypes and make it easier for both teams to test and evaluate them.
A Major Showcase
On Friday, we had the opportunity to present ReNuShu to a major, undisclosed footwear company. The session introduced our project vision and demonstrated our early prototypes. The reception was highly positive—industry partners expressed excitement about how NuShu smart shoes, paired with accessible and engaging gameplay, could motivate mobility training in ways that are both clinically relevant and enjoyable.

Our Essence
This week also marked the unveiling of our new slogan:
“From Rehab to Play, From Play to Progress.”
It captures the heart of our work—transforming rehabilitation into play, and play into lasting progress.
Next Steps
As we move forward, we will continue refining our prototypes, guided by faculty feedback, clinical expertise, and technical updates from Magnes AG. The momentum of this week sets the stage for more structured testing and deeper collaboration with both medical and industry partners.
