Week 2 – Jan. 28, 2022
Working on ideas
We started working on the two ideas discussed earlier. The goal was to make mockups to present our ideas to the client and get a direction early on in the project.
Feedback from the client
The client gave us some solid feedback on the ideas that we presented and helped us get to a starting point.
For the mini-game collection idea:
-It is a good idea as long as we control the scope well.
-Making a bunch of mini-games with unsatisfactory quality is not better than making less of them with higher quality.
-Mario Party and Jackbox can be our reference.
-It will be great if our games can have the feature to help teachers track students’ performance, such as scoring or winning state to take screenshots.
-Based on the Candy Grabbing game, having a theme for our mini-games can be a good choice, but it’s not a necessity.
For the Web-building idea:
-It involves teaching and looks interesting.
-The future maintenance and changes to the website, such as adding things in, website migration, fitting into another topic, etc. can be tough.
-Some LMS vendors are already in talks to add modules to a software.
Things we can take into consideration:
-Make a module evaluation system to help teachers asynchronously communicate the in-class performance of students and problems they meet.
-Make some enhancements to the Jetbots, so that they can send video better from robots to the laptop without lagging.
Next steps
Considering that the client likes the mini game idea more, we decided to head in that direction. We are brainstorming for more game ideas and also the possible themes for those ideas.
Next week, we will pitch the ideas we have by answering the following questions:
-What is the game?
-How does it help in explaining the concept?
-How does it hit the module?
-What’s the possible theme to connect them together?
-And also clarify the scope and the semester-long schedule of the project and the number of mini-games that we can make at most.
