On the playtest day, there were 12 groups of adult guests visiting our game, and we harvested a lot of feedback. Based on their reaction, there are several point to conclude:
- Almost all playtesters were able to pick up the game within 7 minutes.
- The category confusion is the most mentioned question.
- Definitely a human host and walking them through helps.
- A common thing that happens on the day is people do not know they pay for others to get rid of trash cards.
- Same facilities may cause the trading not happening.
- Different player paces affecting session dynamic.
Based on the conclusion, we planned our next step:
- Session structure changed to tutorial discussion(12min), round1 trading(12min), round 2 discussion (4min), round2 trading(12min) and Takeaway & Award Ceremony(6min).
- Subtle game design iterations.
- New board with more clear UI(Storage grid, pollution grid match token, facility silhouette).
- Boxes for each country to place their investment.
- New cards and new facilities made based on new categories.
We have written a new script for the soft opening and fabricated a new version of game based on our new design.
