Week 8 – Big Picture Studio at GDC!

This week, 5 team members were at GDC, and our narrative designer stayed in Pittsburgh to come up with our final game structure.

GDC outreach!

We handed out business cards as we networked, to invite people to our booth on Wednesday and see the demos themselves. We also met with Stone Librande, a senior game designer from Riot Games, but also a professor for ETC, on how to further develop our game.

A interesting conversation with Stone came up, as we discussed the difference between the emergent nature of interactive art pieces (like synthesizers), which points to a more replayable game, verses a more choreographed, scripted experience. We were sure we wanted something more like the former, and this aligned our understanding of our medium even deeper.

Game design

As a game that seeks to unify mechanics and story, as well as bespoke puzzle moments utilizing the system, we have come to realize that gameplay and narrative should come hand in hand. Therefore, this week, we restructured our previous prototypes, and our narrative designer, working with our game design advisor, came up with a first pass of the final game structure!
