ABOUT US

Project Description

The Building Blox project is creating a prototype for a narrative design playground in cooperation with Roblox. Using Roblox Studio, we aim to make a learning tool for high school students that allows them to explore and demonstrate their understanding of various subjects, such as history or foreign language, in an interactive and memorable environment. Taking inspiration from Telltale GamesSpore Galactic Adventures, and Bad End Theater, our playground integrates branching narratives with a three-dimensional sandbox style play to help students without programming knowledge build experiences. By building stories through our tool, students are able to practice perspective taking and grammar as they build conversations and play each other’s worlds. Students are also able to exclusively share their experiences and what they’ve learned with classmates and teachers by claiming story plots in a virtual Roblox classroom. To accommodate classroom technology, our product runs on PCs, mobile devices, and Chromebooks.

As a demonstration of our tool, we are also developing a narrative based on an adapted Latin assignment given to us by a high school Latin teacher. This demo highlights the flexibility of our branching narrative system and helps to guide our final documentation on the future uses and needs of our project.

About Roblox And Roblox Education

Roblox is a free online game platform where players can both play others’ creations and create games themselves in Roblox Studio. Roblox’s Education division is focused on bringing the platform to classroom so that students can learn about a variety of different subjects in an engaging and immersive way. Since the platform is accessible on both mobile devices and PCs, Roblox educators hope to bring the platform to the forefront of classrooms. With it’s easy accessibility and high immersion potential, Roblox has carved out its own niche in the project-based learning space.
