Week 13 – November 28, 2022

This week we had our soft opening split across Monday and Wednesday. On Monday we had our instructors, Dave and Shirl, and our faculty consultant, Chris, visit and attempt to complete a slightly edited version of the Latin assignment. This overall went pretty poorly, but we learned a lot about how we need to present our tool, the instructions on how to use it, and our assignment. Additionally, we received feedback on the layout of our templates, NPC locations, and UX of the dialogue node graph feature.

This was all really great information for us and we spent the rest of the day Monday, all of Tuesday, and Wednesday morning implementing the feedback into our build. Gillian created more documentation including pictures and drastically restructured our onboarding process. Xiao began working on a tutorial video that we decided to roll into our trailer video. Anlan redid the Latin template while Lyn added some more wacky NPCs. Rohit moved and updated our main NPC (although there were some texturing issues so he has yet to update his aesthetic) while Chenguang updated some of the GUI to be more user friendly.

All of these changes paid off for our soft opening on Wednesday with Ralph, John D, and Jonathan W. The feedback from Wednesday was much more focused on the aspects we were hoping to display and discuss like potential long-term use and what future features or polishment would be most beneficial to tell Roblox about.

On Monday, Gillian also sent off the first draft of documentation to be reviewed by Roblox, Chris, and our instructors. Roblox responded particularly well, although they were a little overwhelmed by the volume. By the end of Friday, almost all the documentation is done with the only additions consisting of a demo video and a list of known bugs. Additionally, Roblox asked for a brief presentation of our tool during our meeting next Wednesday.

After crunching in the first half of the week, Friday was a little lighter as everyone worked on polishing the tool and wrapping up loose ends in preparation for BVW Festival and developing our final presentation.
