With the beginning of Week Two, we began brainstorming and attempting to come up with some initial ideas. We created a Composition Box using Jamboard. On the Composition Box, we listed our Inspirations, Ideas, Core Questions, and other aspects of our project. In a workshop, we received some feedback on what he had put in our Composition Box. In the end, we took two different directions with our initial ideas.
The first idea is called Sci City. It was inspired by Icebreaker games and Idle games as well as drawing on the usage of big screens in public settings such as museums and science centers. The general idea is that conference attendees would receive different cards with either a science vision or a technology/method on the card. The attendees’ goal is to add buildings to the Sci City in order to improve it. However, they can only make their addition if they partner up with an attendee who has a different card. In this way, we hope to inspire conversation and connection amongst conference attendees.
The second idea is called Co-op Museum Builder. This is a tabletop board game inspired by the mechanics of Loop Hero. In this game, a group of conference attendees would participate. They each have roles with different skills. Working together, they can gather resources which they can use to buy or exchange museum-related items from the shop. They will have to build their museum while also dealing with different events including positive ones (festival) and negative ones (global pandemic). By making it a cooperative game, we also hope to encourage discussion amongst the participants.
Finally, we also worked on our logo design. Below you can see a number of different logo sketches. We wanted to combine the ideas of Science and Communication in our logo since the two ideas are very prominent in both our group name and our project. We ended up choosing the sketch combining the atom symbol and conversation bubble for our final logo.
