Playtest:

On Wednesday Oct.19, we hosted our first public playtest in our room. In total, we welcomed more than 15 first-year and second-year students. We printed small-scaled paper posters of La Marie Vison and the La MaMa collage and set up the sofa with 3 masks. In the future, we will replace the paper posters with 1:1 scale posters for a better experience. Many students showed interest in getting to know the history of La MaMa as well as its past shows, which was an embedded key factor in our target audience. We assume that visitors to the La MaMa Archive are at least interested in the archive, if not passionate.

Overall, students were attracted to three AR experiences and complemented the immersive integration with reality and our art style.

With butterflies flying out of the poster, some students tried to catch butterflies by hand, instead of tapping on the phone.

The storytelling was not as effective as we expected due to a lack of tutorial, visual feedback, and low device volume for audio. All of the feedback will be addressed in the upcoming weeks.

Fall break:

Immediately after our presentation on Friday, we started fall break!! It’s CMU’s FIRST fall break!!

La MaMa Archive

I (Shan) had a conflicting schedule when the rest of the team went to visit La MaMa Archive in NYC last month, but since I planned a trip to NYC during fall break, I visited La MaMa Archive on Oct.20 with Sophie. During the trip, I was able to test our demos on-site and took photos of more posters we could design in the future. The demos for La Marie Vison and Carmilla worked out well, although the one for La MaMa Collage didn’t work so well due to the lack of the correct digital poster.
