Week 9 – 2nd Alignment & GDC

4 out of 6 team members are heading to GDC (Game Development Conference) this week. This year, the GDC got a huge part for Metaverse and XR.

The first thing to report this week is the MidFi alignment summary from last week.

MidFi Prototype Alignment Activity

The team had an online alignment activity with the 3 artists. Here are some of the updates:

1. Navigation Map

    • proposal – design – development – test
  • Type
    • UI features

This function will be developed in the 2nd iteration.

Overlay Map – ON
Overlay Map – OFF

2. Rotation Gizmo

  • Status
    • proposal – design – development – test

3. Adjustment & Interaction

  • Status
    • proposal – design – development – test
  • Type
    • UI & AR features

For now, there is no specific way to move the placed object once the user(artist) clicked the location where they want to place the artwork. We want to introduce this adjustment feature for them to move the location to give them more freedom to fine-tune. Also, we allow them to set up whether they want the viewers can interact with the placed artwork in a specific way.

This function will be developed in the 2nd iteration.

4. Home Page

  • Status
    • proposal – design – development – test
  • Type
    • UI features

The home page is currently under development and will be included in the 1st iteration. The backend of the comment system is ready, and it will be ready in the 2nd iteration with a fine-tuned UI.

5. Viewer End

  • Status
    • proposal – design – development – test
  • Type
    • UI features

As the team is currently prioritizing the artist’s end, the viewer’s end is now at the proposal stage. However, as we could treat the viewer’s application as a simplified version of the artist’s application, it is estimated to be developed rapidly.

This will be completed in the 2nd iteration.

The team collected several feedback from the artists regarding the MidFi content. Here are some of the points:

  • The artists do not want any administrator, they want to build a community.
  • If the project runs for years, how should we manage it?

The engineering team has confirmed the most crucial features and is elaborating on the 1st iteration. It will be used in the HiFi Prototype Alignment Activity. The team will collect feedback from the artists, as well as record their reactions when they are using the app.

GDC

Tiange, Glendon, Simon, and Lena visited GDC this week. Here are some contents they want to share:

Tiange

I mainly participated in lectures about independent games because I have big interests in the gaming industry. I have been inspired by developers, designers, and educators.

Simon

It is an invaluable opportunity to learn, network and be inspired by the latest advancements in the gaming industry.

Glendon

I learned how to start networking in the industry with help from other ETC folks.

Lena

It was nice to see how the industry is evolving, as well as talking to people who are thriving for the fantastic technologies.

Summary

The team will have a HiFi prototype alignment acitivity with Erica and the artists next week. The 1st version of the iteration will be released as well.
