Week 5: February 18, 2022 – SME’s and Prototypes

Hello!
This week we had two main focuses: Arranging Subject Matter Expert (SME) meetings and fleshing out some prototypes. A few of our team members were able to meet with Olivia Robinson (textile industry SME and CMU faculty member) to gain more information about her perspective. The team found speaking with Olivia to be very beneficial and hope to be able to discuss more with her in the future.
As for the prototypes, we want to move in the direction of something we can start playtesting ASAP. We want to start gathering information from our peers as well as from audience stand ins. By the end of the week, we were able to get two main ideas for prototypes that we will likely build out (possibly as a single prototype, possibly separate).
In addition to the team work, I asked each team member for a sentence or two about how they would describe what their workload looked like this week, with their responses below:

Danny

I focused on some specific game mechanics (fashion show). Gathered a lot of art references and looked into what felt very doable. https://miro.com/app/board/uXjVOO3fmuw=/

Em

Met with Olivia Robinson (textile industry SME). Finishing up the poster and half sheet, just working on revisions based on feedback. As a producer, Em’s focus has been to set deadlines and ensure the team is meeting those deadlines.

James

Spent time on a few different possible paper prototypes for our project at the beginning of the week. After meeting with Dave and Brenda, took a step back from looking at gameplay to try to focus on identifying the transformation(s) we want players to undergo.

Jingyuan

Also met with Olivia. Discussed game mechanics, researched environmental protection games such as Frostpunk. Started working on a prototype about transforming a polluted town into an eco friendly town by making ethical fashion choices. Worked on building the team website.

Sarah

This week I looked back into the faculty meeting notes and our team notes to come up with a transformational goal. I also reached out to Dave and Brenda and got some advice in UX approaches for myself and Jingyuan. I also will spend the rest of 2/17 working on fleshing out a game idea prototype for the client meeting on Friday.

Xiunan

Did a lot of research on airconsole, which seems like a potential candidate for our project. Started a prototype pitch for a system of mini games where each mini game is teaching a different skill/method. DDDD
