Week 9: March 25, 2022 – Playtesting With Faculty

Hello!

This week was a very productive week for our team in terms of our prototypes and what we were able to show to faculty.

We were able to meet with our Faculty Consultant, Heather Kelley, to playtest a physical version of our game. The physical prototype had two main features: the tutorial phase, which features levels that teach players about different aspects of recycling/reusing clothes, and our fabric guide, which has entries on a variety of different materials and the sorts of properties those materials have. Heather identified some hiccups/points of discomfort and we found the meeting helpful at identifying which actions we need to smooth out.

After that meeting with Heather, we had our faculty meeting with Dave and Brenda. They shared their thoughts, which along with Heather’s feedback, gave us some good things to think about. We spent the rest of the week reviewing and iterating on the physical prototype. We are now at the point in our project where we are developing a physical version and a digital version in tandem. Our end goal is to just present the digital version of our game at the Games For Change Festival, but we can gather a lot of playtest feedback through our physical prototype.

As for the digital prototype itself, Xiunan has been leading the Unity programming with James assisting. Danny has been working on the 3D environment while Em has been creating the 2D/UI art. Sarah and Jingyuan are iterating on their physical prototype and then working directly with the rest of the team to get new features implemented into Unity.

We still have additional writing/narrative passes to complete, but we have a relatively set plan on how we are moving forward.

Looking at next week, we have additional playtesting and prototyping to do with the next notable date being Playtest Day on April 2nd.
