Week 14 – April 25, 2022

Final Presentation Preparation

The majority of this week’s time was focused on preparing for our final presentation on Thursday. On Wednesday we had a presentation content review of our second deck iteration with Heather and Dave. Essentially all of Friday was devoted to updating the slide deck to be focused around the insights we have gained from building the experience. We have several practices planned for the rest of next week, both in the RPIS and in our project room. We’ve also invited Dr. Creswell, Mathew, Ian, and Patrick from Equa Health to our final presentation and organized a final play session for all of them afterwards.

Final Playtesting

We had a final round of playtesting with Shirley and Patrick at the beginning of this week to help guide some of the polishing of our experience. Shirley’s main feedback was regarding buffing up the soundscape and Patrick was wholly satisfied with our experience. Constanza also ran one last playtesting session with four of our peers. The testing was helpful for pointing out a few bugs in our experience which were all easy fixes for the team.

Sound

Gillian created some more water splashes and ambiance for the environment that Faris implemented. While sound was not a metric of success for our final product, we found that the soundscape needed a little more depth.

Optimization

Lauren, Faris, and Zibo have all been working on optimizing our build so the app can run as a standalone app on the Quest. The standalone app does not cause motion sickness and has full functionality, but we have only been able to get the frame rate up to 20-30 FPS. Since this affects graphics some, we have decided that our best solution is to also give the Unity Files over to Equa in addition to our standalone APK so that they can test with a high quality experience.

Hand-Off Preparation

We discussed hand-off with Equa this week and came up with a list of final deliverables and documentation.

  • Quest Build
  • Unity Files and Technical Documentation regarding
  • Connecting the Hexoskin including
    • iOS Source Code
    • Web Bluetooth Demo Code
    • Server Code
  • Setting Up a Quest with Hand Tracking
  • Setting up and running the experience
    • Through Unity
      • Installing the project files and running
      • Saving individual user test data to a .csv format
    • Through a standalone APK
      • Installing SideQuest and running the app
  • Final Presentation Slides
iOS App Demo

Faris and Zibo have been hard at work making the technical documentation while Gillian worked on communicating with Equa about hand-off details and scheduling. Zibo also put some software demo videos together and Lauren worked on creating a longer demo video for our presentation.
