This marks the first week of team A.N.E.N.Y’s existence!
This post’s theme is trying something new, since that was the general sentiment of this week. So what new things did we do?

We explored!

Since most of our team is completely new to pinball, and we all somehow found ourselves on a sexy pinball project dubbed “Pinball Fantasies”. We decided the best way to start our ideation may just be with some “casual gaming” as I like to call it (sponsored by our project budget and our project mother Heather!).

All jokes aside we ended up going to “Pins Mechanical Co.“, a small arcade bar across the river from our office to research, explore, and play all kinds of modern mechanical pinball cabinets!

We learned!

At Pins we got to try 16 totally different pinball cabinets! We were most surprised by the difference in play between each cabinet. We found ourselves able to compare which ones we liked and didn’t, and by the end of the night we were able to pinpoint what types of gimmicks/gameplay techniques were successful, and what sort of visuals drew us in to playing.

We started thinking!

First we had to define what sexy meant to us, what we wanted to say, and how we were going to say it. Some of our initial brainstorming questions were…

What kinds of games/films/art already exist that we think use sex intriguing way?

How can we tell a story though the act of playing pinball?

How do you make pinball sexy?

We ended up with a few things running in our mind moving into the second week. First, the contrast of hard and soft, not just in physicality but also within temperament, attachment, and environment. Second, we decided we don’t want to create an experience meant to be sexy, we want to create a narrative that discusses sex.
