Innerverse

Innerverse is a multiplayer, immersive interactive experience designed for the ETC’s customized CAVE environment, the Cavern, featuring a 270-degree curved projection screen. Using computer vision cameras and Vive trackers, the experience tracks players’ positions and body movements, allowing guests to physically interact with and influence the digital world surrounding them.

Guests enter the story of a student overwhelmed by deadlines and expectations. She suddenly finds herself inside the doodle world she created in sixth grade — only to discover that a piece of the world has gone missing. Together, guests explore this imaginative world, helping its characters search for what was lost.

As the journey unfolds, helping others becomes a metaphor for learning how to extend that same care and compassion inward. Through playful interactions and a story grounded in emotional recognition, guests are invited to step outside their everyday pressures and see themselves from a different perspective.

Innerverse combines immersive storytelling, body-based interaction, calming audiovisual design, and reflective play to create a brief emotional reset from mental overload. Drawing inspiration from narrative and play-based therapeutic concepts such as externalization, psychological distance, compassionate action, and validation, the experience explores how immersive environments can give people space to pause, reframe, reconnect, and return.
