Summary of the Week
We had a meeting with our subject matter expert this week as well as Anthony Daniels. Our team also made time for our team bonding trip and completed our first draft of our transformational framework.
Meeting with Diane
Our meeting with our SME Diane went very well. She gave us an overview presentation on light pollution and also talked about why dark skies are an important part of our ecosystem. We brought up our game idea addressing the connection between light pollution and birds and she was able to help answer a lot of questions, but also made the offer to connect us with a contact she has at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. She suggested that we make a trip to the museum and try and see the specimens that they have collected as part of their study about birds who collide with buildings. She has agreed to continue to help guide us throughout our development and has plans to help put us in touch with other organizations who may be interested in helping us playtest.
Games for Change Meeting
Our meeting with Games for Change this week we presented our art references for our development process. Overall she liked the art references and she gave us some really helpful feedback on our overall presentation that we plan to use moving forward. Overall it was a very productive meeting.
Met with Anthony Daniels
This week Anthony Daniels stopped by to hear our idea and give us feedback. Right away he talked about the light pollution issue by his home in downtown London. We had a productive brainstorming session where we talked about how we could incorporate sound, such as a sped up heartbeat, to help give the feeling of distress when the bird was getting tired or heading towards the light. He suggested that we make a storyboard and we presented it to him at the end of the week.
Team bonding trip
For our team bonding trip we decided to go to Dave & Buster’s. This is a place where you can get food and also play video games. We had a fun night and at the end we cashed in our tickets and got some stuffed animals to help decorate our couch in our project room.
Transformational Framework first draft
We worked together to determine how we would address different sections of the transformational framework and then put it in a presentation to be reviewed by our advisors. This is meant to be a rough draft and we plan to iterate on it as we progress in our development and narrowing down on our scope.
Things that went well
Meeting with Diane this week really helped us to understand the light pollution issue and helped us to have a better idea of which direction we should go with our development. The meeting with Anthony was also very helpful because it got us to start thinking about sound instead of waiting till later to think about how we are going to incorporate it.
Next steps
Next week we hope to figure out a name for our experience and to meet with the bird expert to help get our questions answered and start developing our game.
