Week 8

10/11-10-17

Our first week after Fall Break revolved around prepping for our second monthly meeting with Board.

We also started refactoring our code to be more expandable and designer friendly, because we have been getting a lot of individual bugs that take up a lot of time to troubleshoot. This will slow down new progress, but allow us to have a much more stable build in the future.

We prepared a video showing our progress in gameplay, since presenting the game itself

Unfortunately, there was bad news when we met with Board. Our project doesn’t fit their target audience, due to the amount of numbers and text on the screen. Additionally, the number of pieces we are designing for (2 decks of 15) would make piece manufacturing challenging. As a result, we’ll need to refocus on designing for Fall Festival and our Portfolios, rather than 1st or 2nd party publishing. This was a bummer for the team, and required serious consideration about our new goals and plans for the semester.

However, good news came at the end of the week, when we went to Bit Bridge, an exciting game showcase event in Pittsburgh. This was the second time we showed our game to the public, and last time we had a lot of trouble. This time, however, things went much better. Every guest had a lot of fun, and were excited about the console and our game specifically, which was motivational.

From here, we will continue to rewrite our code, add more content, and figure out how we plan to present our work during Fall Festival.
