Week 2

(8/30-9/5)

After an initial paper prototype with our project instructor, Jonathan Walton, we came to the conclusion that the current game system was taking far too long, and covered much more of the Board than was necessary. As a result, Austin began working on a much simpler system that had a maximum of 4 cards on the screen at a time for both players, with Hearthstone inspired combat. This resulted in even more screenspace, and a game that was much easier to track visually for new players.

This new system playtested well, so the programmers began prototyping this system so it would be playable digitally.

We also received the official CAD files from our connections at The Board, so Ayman and Max took the lead on printing Aluminum foil stickers and testing them on The Board. We printed these stickers using a Cricut device, which was a bit time consuming but did a pretty good job printing the glyphs. Unfortunately, due to the conductivity of the cards and the stickers, we were still having trouble with consistent and accurate glyph detection.

On Friday, we met with Michael Cole, our primary contact at The Board, who gave us some insight on the nature of glyph detection.

We also started preparing for Quarters, which would take place the following week. We planned on having a fully playable (but unpolished) game by then. An ambitious goal for the third week of the semester, but we felt that it was important to gauge if the current design was working or not.
