Week 6 Update portal

Portal design Update:

We worked on the further iteration to the portal interface including the content, layout, visual elements and 3D model. Also adding more detailed pages for more clear and smoother user experience. We created interactive prototypes worked in Figma and tested it using large size touch screen for a more realistic portal using experience. From the developing side, the programmer inserted the main page UIs in Unreal, finalized a workable interactive portal. 

Program Update:

Firstly, Weilin has imported the new glass material 3D model into our project. This new model is much more detailed and accurate than the previous one, and it will provide our users with a more immersive experience. Weilin also adjusted the camera from a perspective view to an orthographic view. This change has helped to improve the clarity of the 3D model and make it easier for users to navigate.

Secondly, Weilin has implemented the hi-fi portal information panel design into the Unreal Engine 5. This has been a critical feature of our project, and we are excited to see it come to life. Users can now go through the portal’s three tabs and many sub-tabs like Overview, Hardwares, and Projects. The information panel design is intuitive and user-friendly, and it will enable users to access crucial information quickly and efficiently.

One of the significant challenges we faced during the implementation of the hi-fi portal information panel design was to ensure that the sub-tabs were easy to navigate. We wanted to make sure that users could find the information they were looking for without feeling overwhelmed. Weilin and the team spent considerable time and effort on this.

3D Update:

Made a more refined model with high quality transparent materials, set up the engine’s ray tracing environment, and adjusted the lighting and rendering effects.

Also implement a caustic effect for the background. Optimized runtime rendering performance.
