We kicked off the semester by figuring out our team name. Since we are a pitched project, we have already decided the roles and the topic that we want to work on. We also scheduled our core hour and our weekly meeting with our faculty advisors, Ricardo Washington and Ralph Vituccio.

So here is the team!

We are TerrARium, and we aim to help teenagers and young adults overcome social anxiety using mixed reality.

Our team members are :

Ezra Hill: programmer and technical artist

Marie Leung: designer and artist

Nolan Pearson: interaction designer

Xiao Han: producer

Varun Girdhar: programmer

On Wednesday, we had the chance to meet our faculty advisors, and they raised many valuable questions that guided us to research more on the topic of social anxiety.

Here are some topics that we researched:

  • What are the common things among people with social anxiety?
  • What are the sources of social anxiety for high school and early college students? What makes people socially anxious?
  • What are some experiences and activities that therapists use that we can adapt from?
  • Game experience targeting social anxiety or therapy. Is there any way we can gamify the experience?
  • Mobile apps targeting social anxiety
  • MR and VR experience targeting social anxiety
  • What are the steps for social anxiety therapy if there is any

The team also created a digital version of the composition box in preparation for the playtesting seminar.
